About Chilaw DC & Oil Mills
Chilaw DC & Oil Mills (Pvt) Ltd was established in 1948 and has continued to grow and evolve over the decades. Since 2012, the company has undergone several management changes, leading to continuous improvement in its operations.
In 2013, Mr. H.D.S.S. Fernando acquired the company and introduced new management practices to strengthen and modernize the production process. Since then, the company has been manufacturing desiccated coconut and other coconut oil products for human consumption under strict hygienic conditions, ensuring the preservation of their authentic natural taste.
The company uses semi-automatic machinery to retain the original flavor of its products, believing that human oversight in the production process plays a vital role in maintaining high quality standards.
In 2019, the company implemented significant infrastructure upgrades, including modernization of its pasteurizing and drying facilities, along with several other improvements.
Aligned with ISO 22000:2018 standards, Chilaw DC & Oil Mills expanded its operations by entering a new business venture — the manufacturing of Coconut Milk. Modern machinery was installed, and the pilot production commenced on 15th August 2020.
Currently, the company supplies coconut milk to selected buyers for further processing, with a key objective of partnering with leading brands such as Nestlé Lanka.
As a by-product of coconut milk production, the company also processes and sells Low Fat Desiccated Coconut (Low Fat DC), gradually phasing out the production of classic desiccated coconut.
The Food Safety Management System (FSMS) Manual of Chilaw DC & Oil Mills outlines the company’s systematic approach to ensuring food safety through effective communication, organizational management, prerequisite programs, and the integration of HACCP principles. The FSMS is designed in accordance with the requirements of ISO 22000:2018 and ISO/TS 22002-1:2009 standards within the defined scope of operations
